Who each is best for

Fulcrum

Precision CNC shops and sheet metal fabricators of roughly 10 to 200 employees that want quoting, scheduling, nesting, quality and job tracking in one manufacturing system.

In their words: “Fulcrum is cloud manufacturing software that connects your shop with live data to make better decisions, faster.”

ShopJig

Smaller fab and build shops that also install parts or sell online, and want travelers and operation time next to a job board, a vehicle check-in, an online store with fitment and QuickBooks Online.

In more detail

Where each one fits

Fulcrum is manufacturing software for CNC shops and sheet metal fabricators. Its pages put scheduling, nesting, BOM and routing building, quality and live job costing up front, and its own page says it was made for shops of 10 to 200 employees. For a manufacturer that wants a scheduling engine and quality records, that’s its home turf.

ShopJig was built in a shop that fabricates and installs and sells parts online. It has the floor pieces (BOMs, routings, work orders, travelers with QR codes, operation timing, actual vs standard cost) but puts them next to the things a smaller build shop runs on: a vehicle check-in, the job board, costed stock, invoices and pay links, an online store with fitment, a day clock with payroll export, and QuickBooks Online.

What ShopJig doesn’t do

No automatic scheduling, no nesting, no quality management system and no QuickBooks Desktop.

Switching

ShopJig imports from QuickBooks and Shopify; see imports. Bring a typical job to the walkthrough and we’ll run it through ShopJig.

Questions

Is ShopJig a Fulcrum alternative?

For a smaller fab shop that also installs, works on vehicles or sells parts online, it can be. For a CNC or sheet metal manufacturer that needs automatic scheduling, nesting inside quotes and a quality system, Fulcrum is built for that and ShopJig isn't.

Do both have digital travelers?

Both track time per operation. Fulcrum describes a digital traveler with a play/pause timer; ShopJig prints a traveler with QR codes and times operations on the iPad or phone, inside the day clock.

Does ShopJig do nesting?

No. ShopJig's instant quoting module prices parts from the file (cut length, holes, bends), the material and your rates, but it doesn't produce cutting nests.
